Tamil comics kamakathaikal is a relatively new form of popular culture in Tamil Nadu. They are a type of Indian-style comic book that is emerging as a source of amusement and mythology for the Tamil people. The film garnered positive reviews and box office success. It won the Best Film award at the 6th Chennai International Film Festival (2012).
